Toyota Prado TX

The Toyota Prado is the most requested 4x4 in our fleet, and for a Shogran trip it solves the problem that every other comfortable vehicle leaves open: it can do the whole journey, including the parts a car cannot.

That matters most in two places. The Kiwai climb in poor weather, where four-wheel drive turns a demanding section into an ordinary one, and winter, when snow on that climb rules out two-wheel drive entirely. If you are travelling between December and February, this is the class of vehicle we recommend before anything else.

For the rest of the year the Prado is about comfort with capability held in reserve. Seven seats, leather, climate control, an automatic gearbox that handles the hairpins without thought, and a ride quality on the rough Kaghan road sections that no sedan matches. Five to six hours from Islamabad passes easily.

On the Siri Paye track, a Prado will make it in competent hands, though we should be straightforward: that track is rock and severe gradient, and many visitors prefer to leave their rental parked in Shogran and take a local jeep up rather than put an expensive vehicle through it. We are happy either way and will advise honestly based on conditions on the day.

Luggage space with all seven seats occupied is limited, as with any three-row SUV. For seven people plus a week of bags, a roof box or a second vehicle is the realistic answer.

Every Prado goes out with a driver experienced on the Kaghan road, full service history and checked tyres. Rates are quoted per day or as fixed point-to-point pricing, and for multi-day valley tours we quote a package including the driver's stay. If you want more space at similar capability, the Land Cruiser is the step up.
