Toyota Fortuner

The Toyota Fortuner is the most sensible 4x4 in our fleet for a Kaghan Valley trip, and the one we book when a group wants full capability without Land Cruiser running costs.

The diesel engine is the key difference. Torque low in the rev range is exactly what a loaded seven-seater needs on the climb from Kiwai, and fuel consumption over a 500 km round trip is substantially better than the petrol V8 alternatives. On a multi-day valley tour that gap adds up to a meaningful share of the budget.

Ground clearance is high, four-wheel drive is genuine rather than a marketing badge, and the automatic gearbox handles the hairpins above Kiwai without the driver working. On the rough section between Balakot and Kiwai the suspension deals with the surface rather than passing it through to passengers.

Seven seats work well for five or six adults with luggage. As with any three-row SUV, filling all seven seats leaves little boot space, so plan accordingly.

For winter travel this is one of the vehicles we actively recommend. Snow on the Kiwai climb is where four-wheel drive stops being optional, and the Fortuner handles it well with a driver who knows the road.

It is capable on the Siri Paye track, though as with all our rental 4x4s many clients prefer to park in Shogran and take a local jeep for that hour. We will advise based on the track's condition on the day rather than a generic answer.

All Fortuner rentals include an experienced driver, pre-trip brake and tyre inspection, and either per-day or fixed point-to-point pricing. For a three or four day valley itinerary, ask us for a package quote including the driver's accommodation.
