Straightforward main road, usually under an hour. Abbottabad is a good breakfast or fuel stop.
Mansehra to Balakot
An hour to an hour and a half. Balakot is your last dependable fuel, ATM and mechanic.
Balakot to Kiwai to Shogran

Why it feels longer than the map
Almost none of this drive is on fast road. Murree’s descent is winding, the Kaghan road is a river road with limited overtaking, and the final climb takes 30 to 45 minutes for under 10 km. Average speeds are low throughout, which is why 190 km takes five hours.
Should you do both?
They offer genuinely different things. Murree is closer to Islamabad, more developed, and busier. Shogran is deeper into the mountains, quieter, and gives you access to Siri Paye and the wider Kaghan Valley.
If you have four or more days, doing both works well: Murree first as it is nearer, then Shogran, then optionally onwards to Naran. If you have two or three days, pick one. For most people wanting alpine scenery rather than a hill-station town, Shogran is the better use of limited time.
