May – the season starts
The track typically opens during this month. Greenery is coming through. Weather is variable but pleasant. Prices are still reasonable and crowds are light. A good compromise month if your dates are flexible.
June – the best all-round month
This is the one to aim for if you can. June generally offers the clearest mornings of the year, which matters enormously for Siri Paye where cloud is the main enemy. The meadows are green, the monsoon has not arrived, and while it is busy it is not yet at August levels.
July – green and wet
The monsoon arrives. The valley turns spectacularly green and afternoon rain becomes routine. Crowds build significantly. Rockfall on the Kaghan road is more likely. Beautiful, but you need to accept that some mornings will be lost to cloud.
August – peak everything
Greenest, busiest, wettest. Accommodation prices peak and booking ahead becomes essential. If you can only travel in school holidays this is your window, but expect traffic, expect to book early, and expect at least one washed-out morning.
September – the underrated month
The monsoon eases, the crowds go home, the air clears, and the meadows are still green. For visitors without school-holiday constraints, September is arguably the best month in the valley and almost nobody talks about it.
October – clear and cooling
Sharp, clear air and autumn colours. The Siri Paye track starts closing towards the end. Nights get properly cold. Very quiet. Good for photography, less good if you need the meadows guaranteed.
November – transition
Track generally closed, hotels winding down, weather unpredictable. The least rewarding month unless you specifically want emptiness.
December to February – winter
