The three ways up
By jeep

On foot
Roughly three to four hours uphill depending on fitness, and around two to two and a half coming down. It is a proper hike rather than a walk: sustained gradient at altitude on a rough surface.
If you are going to do it, start very early, carry more water than you think you need, and be realistic about how altitude affects you. Many people walk up and take a jeep down, which is a sensible compromise.
Partly on horseback
Horses are available for the last section from where jeeps typically stop. They cover a short distance rather than the whole track and are negotiated on the spot.
Timing your day
Work backwards from cloud. Leaving Shogran at 7 AM puts you at the meadows around 8, giving you a clear window before cloud typically builds through the morning. Leaving at 10 gets you there around 11, which in July and August is frequently too late.
Budget three to four hours total for a jeep trip including time at the top. Budget a full day if you are walking.
Season
