Honda BR-V

The Honda BR-V is the vehicle we recommend when a family of six or seven wants comfort without stepping up to a full 4x4 budget. It combines seven seats, an automatic gearbox and crossover ground clearance, which is an unusually good match for the Kaghan road.

Ground clearance is the part that matters most here. The BR-V sits noticeably higher than any sedan, so the rough patches on the Balakot to Kiwai stretch, and the uneven sections of the climb to Shogran, are far less of a concern. A loaded sedan picks its way over those; the BR-V simply drives over them.

Seven seats with dual air conditioning means the third row is actually usable rather than a token. For a family with grandparents and children, or two couples with luggage, it removes the need for two vehicles. Roof rails help when the boot is full, which it will be if all seven seats are occupied.

The automatic gearbox makes the hairpins above Kiwai considerably easier, which every passenger notices even if they cannot say why.

Important to state plainly: the BR-V is a crossover, not a 4x4. It has no low range and no four-wheel drive. It will not go to Siri Paye, and in settled snow it is not the right vehicle. Groups usually pair a BR-V for the main journey with a local jeep for the meadow morning, which we can book together.
