Shogran Distance From Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and Other Cities

Quick answer

Shogran is about 250 km from Islamabad (5-6 hours), 600 km from Lahore (9-10 hours), and roughly 250 km from Peshawar (5-6 hours). From Karachi, fly to Islamabad and drive from there. All routes converge at Mansehra and Balakot.

Every road route to Shogran ends the same way: Mansehra, then Balakot, then the Kaghan road to Kiwai, then the climb. What changes is how long you spend getting to Mansehra. That makes the distances easy to reason about once you know your city’s leg to that point.

Distance and driving time by city

Islamabad and Rawalpindi

Around 245 to 250 km and 5 to 6 hours. The Hazara Motorway makes the first half quick. This is the standard route and it is covered in detail in Islamabad to Shogran.

Lahore

Roughly 600 km and 9 to 10 hours of driving via the M-2 to Islamabad, then the Hazara Motorway. This is a long day. Most people either break the journey overnight in Islamabad or leave Lahore around 3 AM. Doing it in one push and then attempting Siri Paye the next morning is asking a lot of yourself.

Peshawar

About 250 km and 5 to 6 hours, going via the M-1 to Islamabad or across through Swabi and Haripur towards Abbottabad. Comparable to the Islamabad drive in time.

Karachi

Around 1,750 km by road, which nobody sensibly drives for a holiday. Fly to Islamabad, then treat it as an Islamabad departure. Flights land early enough that you can drive up the same day if you have arranged a vehicle in advance.

Abbottabad

About 110 km and two and a half to three hours. If you are already in the Hazara region this is the easiest approach of all.

Mansehra

About 85 km and two to two and a half hours. Mansehra is effectively the gateway; everything past it is mountain road.

Murree

Roughly 180 to 200 km and four and a half to five and a half hours via Abbottabad. People often assume Murree and Shogran are close because both are hill stations, but they are on different sides of the region. Details in Murree to Shogran.

Naran

About 60 km further up the valley, taking two to two and a half hours because of the road. See Shogran to Naran.

Why the times look slow

Two reasons. The Balakot to Kiwai stretch is a river road with limited overtaking, and the final Kiwai to Shogran climb is 7 to 9 km that takes 30 to 45 minutes on its own. Motorway averages do not apply once you pass Mansehra.

Add peak season traffic and the numbers stretch further. In July and August, a weekend arrival can take an hour or more longer than the same drive on a Tuesday.

Planning the drive

Whatever your starting point, aim to arrive in Shogran with daylight left. The last climb is not something you want to be doing for the first time in the dark, and hotel check-in is much simpler when you can see where you are going.
